Birds in the wild eat a vast and seasonally changing array of foods. We recommend that a mixture of seed and pellets make up around 50% of your birds diet, with the other 50% composed of wet mix and fresh foods.
DO NOT FEED TO YOUR BIRD:
Avocado, chocolate, raw milk products, alcohol, rhubarb, greasy foods, sugary foods, salty foods. In addition, the pits of certain fruits contain toxins, so pull out seeds and pits when feeding your birds fresh fruits.
Suggested Foods:
This is not a complete list. We suggest that you find out just what your bird likes by experimenting.
Proteins: Nonfat plain yogurt, nonfat cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs, well cooked chicken, grains, brown rice, enriched pasta, corn, nuts, and cooked beans.
Vitamin A: collared greens, turnip greens, kale, broccoli, chard, green peppers, alfalfa, hot peppers, sweet potatoes, yams, carrots, squash, pumpkin, peaches, nectarines, cantaloupe, and papaya
Other Suggested Fruits and Veggies: Corn on the cob, peas in the pod, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, artichokes, green beans, asparagus, tomatoes, apples, grapes, bananas, berries, pomegranate, figs, and cranberries
Whole Grains: whole grain breads, unsweetened cereal, whole grain pasta, low fat granola, oat bran, unsalted pretzels, and crackers.
Carbohydrates: fruits, pasta, grains, bread, corn, nuts, seeds, and beans.
Other Suggestions: Wet mix contains many of the above ingredients and is enjoyed by most birds. It can be bought in our store or online, or even made at your own home. Baby food may be added to cooked vegetables to make a healthy addition to your bird's diet.
